Onda to nije postojalo.

This ladybug costume is going to be first among 15 other Halloween costumes I have made for my kids that I am going to share with you.

I am sorry I don't have a tutorial to show you step by step how to make this beautiful costume for little girls. But, back then, I didn't think of that.
I am sorry I didn't have a digital camera.
But, it wasn't invented back then, I belive.
I am sorry I didn't take better photos, oh, well...

These photos were taken 15 yrs ago :)

This pattern from Burda was my inspiration. I had this magazin long before I had my child, but I decided to make this as soonest she was old enough to wear it.

Ovo je orginalan kroj iz Burde.
Po njemu sam sve radila, osim bluze.
Nju sam već imala.

This is original pattern.
I had made costume according to it,
except for the blause,
I already had it.

Iskrojila sam sve dijelove, osim za bluzu.
Naravno, napravila sm i neke izmjene.

I had cut all the parts according to the pattern, except the blause.
I had made some changes; wings were made from only red material.
There was a thin line between them, black dots were zig-zaged to the wings.
I didn' t have any red material with black polka dots for the shorts,
so I used plain red material.
I had some big red buttons for the vest, of course.
She had red tigths, and was set to go!

Za ticala sam uzela jednu dulju žicu,
jednu crnu traku koju sam prošila da mogu žicu uvući unutra,
a na krajeve stavila crvene kuglice.
Žicu ( u jednom komadu) sam joj provukla kroz kikice.

And, for the antlers, I had used a  longer wire
that I "clothed" with black ribbon
and little red balls on the top.
The antlers were secured on her head.

a ja dobila kroničnu zarazu maškarama
koja traje i dan danas....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was my child's first costume party.
She won 1st prise.
And then my addiction with making costumes started.
And it least untill today :)
As you probably know by now, I come from Croatia.
We don't have Halloween.
What we have is called Maškare, Fašnik, Poklade;
every part of the country has its own name for it, and its own tradition.
Maškare are held usually in February,
a day before Ash Wednesday.
It was our tradition to dress up in a scary costumes
to scare away the winter.
It is a joyfull day becouse it celebrates the beginning of spring;
it is loud, it is fun!
I usually make costume for my kids,
so they are not scary at all.
We have a competition for best children and adoult costumes.
Only condition for partipation on this event
is that costumes are handmade.
I will show you some of my work in upcomming posts.
Hope you'll like it :)
  2. Congratulations for the prize (your costume looks better than Burda!) When I was little my mom also had her inspiration from Burda, I remember that here in Romania those magazines were precious as gold before the cold war ended.
    1. No, it is not Halloween, our holiday is usualy held in February, it is quite different then Halloween; not so scary (spiders, scary costumes etc) but festive and funny (parades, presentations of costumes, dancing, jokes). It has pre-christian roots, but is part of our tradition.
      Here are some links. The fist one is our most famous Carneval, the one that helds in Rijeka, and the second one is a text from Wikipedia that explains tradition of Carneval around the world - you can find a section about Croatia, too!
